I’ve just finished writing the skeleton of two new songs. Skeleton, meaning they haven’t been recorded, only written. Which is fine.

My biggest problem when developing new songs is remembering the farkin’ things. I’ll often come up with a great lyric/melody and then forget it. Since I don’t carry a tape recorder with me (stupid, I know, but I can’t really break out the recorder in the middle of a meeting and sing into it …), I’ve taken to associating the song with an existing song. One of the songs is musically identical to Hag’s I Think I’ll Just Stay Here And Drink, although once you hear it, you’d never guess it.

Whatever gets you through the day, I guess.

The other song … I’ve been working on forever. It’s not complicated, but I’m still not happy with the bridge. I may end up redoing it, for like the 15th time.

Both songs are great 2-steps, which excites me to no end. I love a good 2-step.

I need to get with Luke and pound these things out. There’s no telling what kind of magic he can work on them. Maybe we can hook up in the next week or two.

Once I get the amp and Tele paid off, I’ve got to get a decent firewire audio interface. And upgrade Logic Pro. That’ll make practices with Luke far more productive. Until then, I need to find a good Boss RC-2 so I can start fully developing the guitar parts.
